MARCH, LENT AND HOLY WEEK
ACTIVITIES AT CUMC MASSAPEQUA

 

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner
(Tuesday, March 4th, 5:30-7:00 pm)

Pancakes will be served continuously from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. You can show up anytime and stay as long as you like. $6/per person with an immediate family maximum of $24.

 

Ash Wednesday Services 
(Wednesday, March 5th)

Joint worship services for the SWE/CL Cooperative Parish will be held at the following times and locations:

12:30 p.m. at CUMC Massapequa, 100 Park Blvd., Massapequa, NY 11758

 7:30 p.m. at East Meadow UMC, 470 E Meadow Ave, East Meadow, NY 11554

 

Healing Service Sunday (March 16th at 10 a.m.)

During morning worship service there will be a time of special prayers of healing, anointing with oil, and laying on of hands for those in need of healing or comfort.
All are welcome.
 

LENTEN WORSHIP SERVICES

SWE/CL Cooperative Parish joint Lenten worship services will be held every Wednesday after Ash Wednesday. Each service will start with a light dinner at 6 pm, followed by worship service at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to attend. The schedule is as follows:

 

March 12th at CUMC Massapequa
(Dinner and worship service planned and prepared by Grace UMC, Lindenhurst)

 

March 19th at Simpson UMC Amityville

 

March 26th at CUMC Massapequa

 

April 2nd at Bellmore UMC 

 

April 9th at CUMC Massapequa
(Worship Service at 7 pm. No dinner at 6 pm.)
 

HOLY WEEK SERVICES:

 

April 13 – Palm Sunday

10:00 a.m. at CUMC Massapequa
Children’s Choir will be singing.

 

April 17 – Maundy Thursday

7:30 p.m. at CUMC Massapequa

 

April 18 – Good Friday

For those who desire worship:
  • Traditional worship, Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.
  • Toddler/Baby’s Room and Sunday School available during morning worship.
  • Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month.
  • Join Our Choir! Singing in morning worship September through June.  Musicians needed for accompaniment.

 

For those who desire to learn and grow in faith:
  • Adult Education: Tuesday mornings. Frequent seasonal evening studies. Call church office for schedule and details.
  • Sunday School: Pre-school thru 7th. Includes Children’s Church.
  • Confirmation classes: for 8th graders, October through May.
  • Vacation Bible School: traditionally held for one week in August.

 

For those who desire authentic community:
  • Small groups offer opportunities to share the journey and grow spiritually.
  • Youth Group for 5th through 12 grade with support from our young adults
  • Weekly Coffee Hour after church for fellowship and meetings
  • And More! Potlucks, dinners, carnivals, retreats, outings, fairs, and more.

 

For those who desire to serve:
  • Join our Outreach Committee.
  • Food collection and volunteers for LI Council of Churches food pantry.  Home of the Rainbow Food Drive.
  • Disaster Relief – building Health Kits and Flood Buckets.  UMCOR Disaster Relief Site During Hurricane Sandy
  • Youth volunteer for many service projects including camp cleanup, soup kitchens, food drives, and charity fundraisers
  • CUMC Thrift Shop provides inexpensive clothing and household goods.
  • Participation in the Heifer Project for poor farmers around the world.
  • Periodic participation in Habitat for Humanity and other mission projects.
  • We work to eliminate hunger and poverty with “Bread for the World.”
  • Our “Pumpkin Patch” helps farmers of the Navajo Nation.
